Description

Oxytetracycline Hemicalcium Salt is a lipophilic antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections. It binds to the bacterial ribosome and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death. Oxytetracycline Hemicalcium Salt is also used as a model system for the study of hemostasis, which is the process by which blood loss is controlled. The drug has been shown to inhibit neisseria gonorrhoeae growth and has been used in fingerprinting studies on commensal bacteria. This drug encapsulates the active ingredient with fatty acids, forming microparticles that are less than 1 μm in diameter, which makes it useful for treating animals with bacterial disease.
