- Osmium Trichloride Hydrate
- Osmium(+3) Cation Chloride Hydrate
- OSMIUM (III) CHLORIDE HYDRATE
Osmium(III) chloride hydrate is an inorganic compound that is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. It can be prepared by the reaction of osmium(III) oxide with hydrochloric acid. The catalytic activity of osmium(III) chloride hydrate depends on the surface area, which can be regulated by milling and particle size. The material has been shown to have a high degree of stability and to be reusable for at least 50 cycles. Osmium(III) chloride hydrate has been shown to enhance the rate of nitrous reduction, with rates up to 2 orders of magnitude higher than those observed without this material. This catalytic activity is reversible and does not affect the pH or concentration of nitrite ion in solution.
