Orexin-B is a neuropeptide that is produced by the hypothalamus and regulates appetite, arousal, memory, and reward. It also has been shown to be involved in the regulation of intestinal function. Orexin-B can be used to treat cancer cells that are resistant to chemotherapy drugs. It is also used to stimulate intestinal contractility and regulate feeding behaviour in animals. The protein is recombinant murine orexin-B, which has been shown to have similar effects as human orexin-B. Orexin-B has also been shown to have anti-bacterial properties against Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi. In addition, it can be used in conjunction with vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) for the treatment of traumatic brain injury.
