- 3-Pyridyl Isocyanate
- 3-Pyridyl isolyanate
3-Pyridyl isocyanate (3PI) is an organosulfur compound that is synthesized from the reaction of 3-pyridinecarboxylic acid and isocyanates. 3PI has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. The crystal structure of 3PI is known and it has been shown to be a bidentate ligand with hydrogen bonding interactions. This chemical can be used for the treatment of bacterial infections within the human body by encapsulating it in inorganic acids, such as calcium chloride, which are then excreted through urine.
