Description :
Potassium nitrate is a salt of potassium and nitrate. It is used in the food industry as a preservative, and it has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial agent. Potassium nitrate has been shown to inhibit the growth of oral pathogens, such as cariogenic bacteria, in a model system. This compound also has insecticidal properties. Potassium nitrate inhibits the development of insects by interfering with their ability to synthesize proteins necessary for metamorphosis from larvae to pupae and from pupae to adults.
