Description

3-Pyrrolidinol is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of organic compounds with the formula CHNO. It is a colorless liquid that can be prepared by oxidation of 3-hydroxypyridine with hydrogen sulfate. 3-Pyrrolidinol has been used as a cross-linker in biochemistry and as an experimental model protein in studies on enzymatic reactions. It has been shown to react with malic acid, which leads to the formation of 3-pyrrolidinol malonate, a model for the reaction between malonic acid and alcohols. The reaction proceeds via a reversible addition-elimination mechanism and is catalyzed by NAD+/NADH coenzyme system. 3-Pyrrolidinol has also been shown to have anticancer effects against HL60 cells in vitro and may have some potential as an anti-inflammatory agent for cancer treatment.
