N-(Phenoxyacetyl)glycine is an amide-type amino acid that has a phenoxy group and an alkylthio group. It is synthesized from glycine by the enzyme bacterial enzyme amidase. This compound binds to the protein synthesis inhibitor sephadex g-100 and inhibits the growth of bacteria. N-(Phenoxyacetyl)glycine also has antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes and Enterococcus faecalis.
