Description

2-Phenylethanesulfonyl chloride is an active conformation of the alkali metal phenylsulfonyl chloride. It is a transduction inhibitor and has been shown to inhibit serine proteases in vitro. 2-Phenylethanesulfonyl chloride has been shown to have estrogenic activity in vitro and in vivo. The stereoisomers of this compound may have different effects on estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) binding affinity, which may account for the differences in activity observed between the two enantiomers. 2-Phenylethanesulfonyl chloride inhibits tyrosine kinase activity and has been shown to be effective against pathologic conditions including cancer cells, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and radiation injury. This drug also inhibits protein synthesis by binding to tyrosine amino acid residues on proteins that are required for translation initiation.
