Description

3-Phenylquinoxalin-2(1H)-one is a thione compound that inhibits the growth of bacteria. It has been shown to be active against a wide range of microorganisms, including Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and fungi. 3-Phenylquinoxalin-2(1H)-one is not active against bacterial spores and does not inhibit the growth of mycobacteria. 3-Phenylquinoxalin-2(1H)-one is an antimicrobial agent that acts by binding to the monomers in the bacterial cell wall, preventing them from polymerizing into peptidoglycan chains. This results in inhibition of cell division, resulting in bactericidal activity.
