Potassium 4-phenyl-5-thioxo-4,5-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thiolate is a hydroxide solution that is used as a fluorescence probe. It reacts with silver ions in the presence of hydrochloric acid to form a copper complex. The reaction mechanism is not known and the exact reactant concentrations are unknown. Potassium 4-phenyl-5-thioxo-4,5-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-thiolate is used for analytical chemistry and cancer research. This compound can be used to detect cancer tissue as well as inhibitor compounds that can inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
