Pisatin is a plant polysaccharide that is abundant in the seed coats of pisum sativum. Pisatin has been shown to have potent inducible activity on protein synthesis and enzyme activities. It also has film-forming properties, which allow it to be used as a coating for medical devices. Pisatin can be used as a model system for studying plant physiology, including phytoalexin production and its role in protein synthesis. It also has been shown to inhibit cytochrome P450 enzymes and microbial infection by binding to bacterial cell membranes. Pisatin is able to bind with high affinity to polyclonal antibodies, making it an attractive candidate for use as an immunotherapy agent for cancer treatment.
