5-Phenyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid is a copper complex that has been shown to be an anticoagulant. It inhibits coagulation by binding to the heparin sulfate proteoglycan, which prevents the formation of clots. 5-Phenyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid also has inhibitory activities against enzymes such as thrombin and factor Xa. The inhibition of these enzymes leads to a decrease in the production of prothrombin and fibrinogen, which are necessary for blood clotting. This compound also binds to the pyrazole ring in proteins, inhibiting their function and causing cell death.
