3-(Pyridin-2-yl)benzoic acid is an organic compound that belongs to the class of benzoic acids. It has a pyridine core, which is linked to a benzene ring with two methyl groups. 3-(Pyridin-2-yl)benzoic acid is soluble in water, methanol and ethanol. The elemental analysis of this compound reveals that it contains carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms. The supramolecular assembly of 3-(pyridin-2-yl)benzoic acid is coordinated by hydrogen bond interactions between its nitrogen atom and the carboxylic hydroxyl group of the adjacent molecule. These interactions lead to a coordination polymer with thermal stability up to 220 °C. X-ray diffraction data show that 3-(pyridin-2-yl)benzoic acid adopts a topology of polymeric chain.
