Piperidin-4-ol hydrochloride is a selective 5-HT2C receptor antagonist. It has been shown to inactivate the 5-HT2C receptor, which is associated with the regulation of neurotransmission and gastrointestinal motility. Piperidin-4-ol hydrochloride binds to the 5-HT2C receptor and prevents acetylcholine from binding to it, preventing the activation of the receptor. This drug also acts on chloride channels, which are involved in neurotransmission. Piperidin-4-ol hydrochloride inhibits acetylation of proteins by reacting with thiols on proteins and deactivating them. It also causes persulfate to react with hydrogen chloride, producing persulfate salts that are reaction products. Functional studies have shown that piperidin-4-ol hydrochloride binds to the 5-HT2C receptor and blocks its activity, preventing the activation of this receptor.
