Pellitorine is an amide that inhibits the enzyme phospholipase A2, which is responsible for the release of arachidonic acid in cell membranes. This compound has been shown to have a potent anti-inflammatory activity and can be used as an antimicrobial agent. Pellitorine has also been shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandin E2 and leukotriene B4, which are inflammatory mediators. Pellitorine displays pharmacokinetic properties in vivo and has been found to be stable in vitro. The structural analysis of this compound has revealed that it contains a novel bicyclic ring system with two adjacent nitrogen atoms on the same side of the cyclohexane ring. Pellitorine has also been found to have metabolic disorders, such as hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity, and cardiotoxic effects.
