Description :
(R)-4-Phenyl-1,3-thiazolidine-2-thione is an oxazolidinone that is synthetically useful for the preparation of chiral compounds. It has been used as a cross-coupling agent in the synthesis of enolates and acetals. This compound can be prepared by the cross-coupling reaction of a Grignard reagent with an aldehyde or ketone. The stereoselectivity of this reaction can be controlled by introducing substituents that are either exocyclic or adjacent to the thiazolidine ring. (R)-4-Phenyl-1,3-thiazolidine-2-thione has also been shown to be effective in the stereocontrolled synthesis of substituted benzofurans and indole derivatives from enolates and acetals, respectively.
