- (2R)-piperazine-2-carboxylic acid
- (2R)-2-Piperazinecarboxylic Acid
(R)-Piperazine-2-carboxylicacid is a symmetric molecule that has been synthesized by an asymmetric process. It is an amino acid with the natural amino acid lysine and is a part of the pyridoxal phosphate pathway. The sequence of (R)-piperazine-2-carboxylic acid has been determined and it is believed to be the first such sequence for an amino acid in the hydrolase family. The enzyme escherichia coli cells are able to hydrolyze this amide, but P. aeruginosa cells are not able to do so. This may be due to structural differences in their respective esterases as shown by X-ray diffraction studies.
