Pyrido[3,2-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione is a purine derivative that blocks the activity of c1-6 alkyl phosphodiesterases. It has been shown to have clinical efficacy in the treatment of muscle wasting and asthma. In cancer cells, pyrido[3,2-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione inhibits the tyrosine kinase activity of enzymes called protein kinase C (PKC) and mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK). This inhibition prevents cell proliferation and induces apoptosis. Pyrido[3,2-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione also inhibits cyclooxygenase 2 (COX2) and lipoxygenase activities in the cytoplasmic membrane. This results in decreased production of prostaglandins and leuk
