4-Phenylnicotinic acid is a pyridine carboxylic acid that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of drugs. It can be found in the form of its salts, such as 4-phenylnicotinic acid hydrochloride (4-PNHCl), which has sedative and anticonvulsant properties. 4-Phenylnicotinic acid also has neurotropic effects, which are thought to be due to its ability to inhibit the uptake of amines such as dopamine and serotonin into the brain.
