4-(2-Pyridinylazo)resorcinol is a metal chelate that has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial agent. It is stable in the presence of hydrochloric acid, and forms stable complexes with metal ions such as copper and zinc. 4-(2-Pyridinylazo)resorcinol has been used as a chromatographic method for the isolation and identification of metals. This compound absorbs ultraviolet light at 350 nm and can be used for linear calibration curves in analytical chemistry. The nitrogen atoms in 4-(2-pyridinylazo)resorcinol allow it to form hydrogen bonds with other compounds, which may account for its biochemical properties.
