Plecanatide
Description :
Plecanatide is a peptide hormone that belongs to the class of disulfide-linked cyclic peptides. It is a potent inhibitor of interleukin-17A, which has been shown to reduce inflammation in patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Plecanatide has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of chronic constipation. The drug binds to the G-protein coupled receptor TGR5 and inhibits the secretion of chloride ions from intestinal epithelial cells, which leads to increased water absorption. This increase in fluid volume stimulates peristalsis and reduces the transit time through the colon.
