Description

4-(Pyridin-4-yl)phenylboronic acid is a boronate ligand that can be used in the synthesis of supramolecular complexes. It is an axial ligand that coordinates to metal ions through its 4-pyridinyl group and its boronic acid group. The molecule has been shown to bind to transition metals such as iron, nickel, palladium, and platinum with high efficiency. 4-(Pyridin-4-yl)phenylboronic acid binds to the metal ion by forming a zwitterion complex, which is stabilized by charge transfer from the pyridine ring to the dianionic boron atom. The transfer of a proton from one side of the molecule to the other leads to ligand dissociation.
