Description :
3-Penten-2-one is an unsaturated ketone that has been shown to be a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme chloride channel, which is responsible for the transport of chloride ions. It also reacts with hydrogen chloride to form 3-penten-2-ol and hydrogen chloride gas. The optical properties of 3-penten-2-one have been studied extensively in relation to its use as a possible solvent in liquid crystals.
