Pelargonic acid sodium (PAS) is a sodium salt of pelargonate. It is used as a substrate for the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, which measures the adsorption of organic molecules onto an inert surface. PAS has been shown to be an effective glycol ether solvent in titration calorimetry experiments and metal chelate-catalyzed reactions. This compound also has been shown to have carcinoid syndrome-like effects on rats and natural compounds that are structurally related to benzalkonium chloride. PAS has been used as a model system for congestive heart failure and structural analysis of pelargonate.
