• Description: Prednicarbate is an alopecia areata drug that is a corticosteroid. Prednicarbate is a prodrug, which means it needs to be converted by the liver into prednisolone before it can take effect. Prednicarbate has been shown to reduce the activity of disease-causing cells and to have anti-inflammatory properties. It does this by binding to glucocorticoid receptors on the surface of cells and inhibiting the production of inflammatory substances. Prednicarbate has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in animal models for inflammatory skin diseases, such as glomerular filtration rate and receptor binding. Prednicarbate may also suppress epidermal growth factor, leading to less cell proliferation in hair follicles.
