Description :Pregnenolon is a corticosteroid hormone with anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antipyretic properties. It is used in the treatment of adrenocortical carcinoma, which is a type of cancer that develops in the gland that produces hormones such as cortisol and aldosterone. Pregnenolon can be administered intravenously or orally, however it has to be injected intramuscularly for use against hypertrophy in animals. This hormone is also used to diagnose diseases of the testes, ovaries, and other tissues. Pregnenolon binds to receptors on cells called glucocorticoid receptors, which are found in most tissues of the body. When these receptors are activated by pregnenolon they inhibit protein synthesis and cause rapid breakdown of fats and proteins. This leads to an accumulation of fat droplets in cells (lipidosis) and a decrease in cellular function. Pregnenolon also has an active form known as pregnenol
