Potassium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide,1M in Me-THF is a tetranuclear amide that can be used for the synthesis of β-unsaturated ketones. It is synthesized by nucleophilic attack of an amine on a β-unsaturated carbonyl compound. The asymmetric synthesis of this compound was achieved by using aryl chlorides and isopropyl group. The nmr spectra show that it has an aryl halide structure with the carbonyl group at the α position. Potassium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide,1M in Me-THF can be used as a precursor to other chemical compounds such as pharmaceutical drugs and polymers.
