• Description: Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is a type of phospholipid that contains choline, a molecule that is essential for the synthesis of cell membrane. The phase transition temperature of PC is around 40°C and it only has minimal concentration in the body. PC plays an important role in the influenza virus by acting as a model protein. It also has an acyl chain and can be found on high cholesterol levels. PC can be assayed with fluorescence techniques and has been shown to have activation energies for its fluorescence properties. PC neutralizes free radicals such as hydroxyl radicals, which are produced by fatty acid oxidation, thereby preventing lipid peroxidation. PC is also found in diabetic patients who suffer from vascular inflammation, which results from increased levels of reactive oxygen species.
