Description

2-Palmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine is a phospholipid that functions in the cell membrane by providing a barrier to prevent water from penetrating the bilayer. It is also involved in energy metabolism and is an endogenous substance. 2-Palmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine has been shown to inhibit influenza virus replication, which may be due to its ability to hydrate the viral envelope, making it more permeable. This molecule has also been shown to bind with other lipids, forming phosphatidylcholine bilayers that are present in all cells of the body. The phosphatidylcholine bilayers provide a physical barrier between cells and may regulate the transfer of endogenous substances between cells.
