• Description: 4-Phenylimidazole is a molecule that binds to malonic acid, an intermediate in the Krebs cycle. The binding of 4-phenylimidazole to malonic acid inhibits the reaction mechanism of the Krebs cycle and inhibits cancer cell proliferation. 4-Phenylimidazole has been shown to bind to serine proteases by hydrogen bonds, which may be an effective approach for inhibiting these enzymes. Furthermore, this molecule has been shown to have antiproliferative effects on cells. This is due to its ability to inhibit fatty acid synthesis and alter membrane fluidity by insertion into double bonds in the lipid bilayer. It also has x-ray crystal structures available for use in molecular modeling studies.
