Piretanide is an active agent that inhibits the production of carboxylic acid. It has potent inhibitory potential against Alzheimer's disease and is a potent inhibitor of cytochrome P450. Piretanide can be extracted from urine by liquid chromatography and it has been shown to have anti-cancer effects in breast cancer cells. Piretanide also induces cell death and prevents cell growth, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of proteins or DNA replication.
