• Description: N-(1-Pyrenyl) maleimide is a fluorescent derivative of maleimide. It has been shown to bind to the ryanodine receptor in the mitochondrial membrane, which is a calcium-binding protein that regulates the release of calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum and influences cellular energy metabolism and reactive oxygen species production. N-(1-Pyrenyl) maleimide has also been shown to induce mitochondrial membrane potential collapse in human serum, which may be due to its ability to bind to terminal residues on proteins.
