4-Pyridinecarboxamide 1-oxide (4PCOX) is a supramolecular compound that inhibits the interaction between amide and oxidised form of 4PCOX. This inhibition leads to a decrease in the rate of synthesis of the n-oxide and alkali metal form, which are considered to be reactive intermediates. The kinetic studies show that the reaction rate is decreased by over 50% when 4PCOX is present. It has been shown that 4PCOX can inhibit HIV-1 infection through its ability to inhibit cCR5 receptor binding, although it does not have any significant effect on CXCR4 receptor binding.
