N-2-Pyridinyl-1,2-ethanediamine is an inhibitor of glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β), which is a protein that regulates the balance between glycogen synthesis and degradation in the liver. Type 2 diabetes is characterized by impaired insulin secretion and reduced insulin sensitivity, leading to hyperglycemia. N-2-Pyridinyl-1,2-ethanediamine has been shown to reduce plasma glucose concentration in type 2 diabetics when administered orally. It also increases glycogen content in hepatocytes through inhibition of GSK3β.
