1-Propanethiol is an activated form of the thiol group that can be used as a redox potential probe. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of resistant mutants, such as those resistant to 5-HT agonists, and to have biological properties in infectious diseases. 1-Propanethiol has also been shown to inhibit transfer reactions and reaction mechanisms, which may be due to its hydrogen bonding interactions or electrochemical properties. The detection sensitivity for 1-propane thiol is low because it is not volatile at room temperature. Solid phase microextraction can be used for sample preparation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy for detection.
