Description

2-Propenylfuran is a compound with an alkynyl group and a hydroxyl group. It can be synthesized from the reaction of propene and formaldehyde under thermally, which has been shown to generate 2-propenyl-1,3-dioxolane as the major product. This alkynyl group is reactive in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid, forming ethyl esters. 2-Propenylfuran is soluble in organic solvents and has liquid crystal composition, which can be seen by its ability to rotate light at 45 degrees Celsius. The particle size of this compound is small, less than 1 micrometer, while it's boiling point ranges from 170°C to 179°C depending on pressure.
