In rats, piperidine hydrochloride has been shown to block the dopamine receptor and reduce acid secretion by inhibiting gastric acid H/K-ATPase. Piperidine hydrochloride also has demonstrated neuroprotective effects against Parkinson's disease and other eye disorders. It also has immunomodulatory properties due to its ability to bind toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) on macrophages.
