Description

Pigment Yellow 74 (PY74) is a diazonium salt and reactive chemical that has been shown to be useful for the detection of metals. PY74 reacts with metal ions to form hydroxylated, carbonylated, and aliphatic hydrocarbon products. PY74 also reacts with hydroxyl groups on a surface of a metal to form an electron-dense particle. The reaction product is stable in the dark but will react with light or heat to produce a yellow color. This product has been used as a marker for detecting infectious diseases and as an indicator of low-intensity light. In addition, this product has been found in rat liver microsomes and human liver tissue.
