- Pyrimidine-2-carboxaldehyde
2-Pyrimidinecarboxaldehyde is a nitrogen heterocyclic compound that is found in many biological systems. 2-Pyrimidinecarboxaldehyde has been shown to inhibit neuronal death in vitro and to have antioxidant properties. It also has been shown to be toxic for fetal bovine and human cells. 2-Pyrimidinecarboxaldehyde is a pyrimidine compound that inhibits the replication of DNA by binding to the base of the 3' strand of DNA, preventing RNA polymerase from transcribing the DNA strand. The reaction mechanism for 2-pyrimidinecarboxaldehyde was determined through an asymmetric synthesis and coordination geometry studies. 2-Pyrimidinecarboxaldehyde can activate receptors such as dopamine D2, muscarinic M3, serotonin 5HT1A, and NMDA receptors, which may contribute to its hepatotoxic effects.
