- 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid, monomethyl ester
2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid monomethyl ester (2,6-PDA) is an organic compound that is used in analytical chemistry to introduce fatty acids into non-polar solvents. 2,6-PDA can be synthesized from the reaction of pyridine and acetic acid. The introduction of fatty acids into non-polar solvents is a necessary first step for analysis by liquid chromatography. This process can be done by using 2,6-PDA as an intermediate. The melting point of 2,6-PDA is about 170°C and it decomposes at a temperature of about 220°C. The purified 2,6-PDA should be stored in a cool place or refrigerated to prevent decomposition.
