Pentafluoro-L-phenylalanine (PFLP) is a synthetic amino acid that is used in the crystallization of proteins. It has been shown to have catalytic activity and can be used as a substitute for L-phenylalanine. PFLP has been shown to act synergistically with aromatic residues, such as tryptophan, tyrosine, and histidine. The crystal structure of PFLP was determined by x-ray crystallography and physicochemical analyses. The molecule is amphipathic, which means that it contains both hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions. This dual nature allows PFLP to interact with other molecules in a specific way, depending on the environment it is placed in. In addition, PFLP has been shown to have transcription factor activity in vitro.
