2-(1H-Pyrazol-4-yl)ethanol (PPE) is an alkali metal salt of pyrazole. It is a white solid that can be prepared by the electrooxidation of pyrazoles in acidic solution or by the reaction of ethylene glycol with sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid. This compound has a pyrazole ring and can be used as a result and reagent in organic synthesis. PPE has been used to synthesize 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, which is a monomer for polymers.
