• Description: (R)-(-)-2-Phenylpropionic acid is a chiral compound that can be used as a model system for studying enzyme reactions. It is the substrate in an experiment to analyse the effects of concentration on reaction rates. The enantiomer of this compound has been analysed and shown to have an almost identical reaction rate, but the two products differ in their stereochemistry. The (S) form of 2-phenylpropionic acid can be synthesized from butyric acid by asymmetric synthesis using chiral amines. This product could be used for preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
