5-Phenyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol is an antibacterial agent that belongs to the class of thiols. This compound has been shown to be a potentiodynamic polarizer that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to nucleophilic sites in the bacterial cell wall. 5-Phenyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol has also been shown to inhibit carcinoma cells and has reusable properties in acidic conditions. The molecule is soluble in hydrochloric acid and insoluble in water. It can be prepared by reacting pyrrole with chloroacetaldehyde followed by reaction with sodium sulfide.
