2,6-Pyridinedicarboxaldehyde is a benzimidazole compound that has been studied for its potential as a fluorescent probe to monitor biological processes. It has been shown to be a good fluorescence probe for basic proteins and was used in the study of group P2 enzymes. In addition, 2,6-pyridinedicarboxaldehyde has been used in asymmetric synthesis. The enantiopure form of 2,6-pyridinedicarboxaldehyde is commercially available as an ester hydrochloride. This substance is also an x-ray crystal structure and has been shown to have nitrogen atoms and oxygen nucleophiles. 2,6-Pyridinedicarboxaldehyde binds to coordination geometry in xenograft tumor growth studies.
