Potassium hexachloroosmate(IV) is a chemical compound with the formula KClO. It is a yellow solid that reacts readily with water to form potassium chloride and chlorine gas. Potassium hexachloroosmate(IV) has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial agent in the treatment of enteric infections, including those caused by bacteria resistant to other antibiotics. Potassium hexachloroosmate(IV) is also used as a topical antiseptic, although it can cause skin irritation due to its corrosive properties.
