• Description: Potassium ethoxide is an ethoxide of potassium. Potassium ethoxides are used as reactive chemicals in the treatment of wastewater, with applications such as neutralization. Potassium ethoxides can also be used to synthesize x-ray crystal structures and has shown potent antitumor activity in mice. The mechanism of action is not known, but it is thought that potassium ethoxides react with activated oxygen species and form superoxide radicals. This reaction may lead to cell death by inhibiting DNA synthesis or by damaging cellular membranes.
