Description

5-Phenylthiophene-2-carboxylic acid is a drug that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of HIV infection. It has been demonstrated to have long-term efficacy and to reduce symptoms of HIV infection. 5-Phenylthiophene-2-carboxylic acid has also been used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases, such as collagen and skin cancer. The drug appears to have a low side effect profile, with few adverse reactions reported. It may also prevent growth factor-β1 from binding to its receptor on cells, which in turn suppresses the production of inflammatory cytokines. 5-Phenylthiophene-2-carboxylic acid is currently being studied for its effectiveness in treating atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in women.
