• Description: Phthalaldehydic acid is a dicarboxylic acid with the molecular formula C6H4(CO2H)2. It is a white solid that is soluble in water and alcohols. The compound can be prepared from phthalic anhydride, which is converted to the acid by hydrolysis with hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide. The acid also forms salts such as sodium phthalate, potassium phthalate, and calcium phthalate.
