Paxilline is a drug that belongs to the class of pharmacological agents. The channel-blocking activity of paxilline was first observed in vitro using a pro-apoptotic protein and polymerase chain reaction techniques. Paxilline also has been shown to have an effect on cellular physiology, including cytosolic Ca2+ levels, enzyme activities and ion channels. Constant pressure experiments were performed on pluripotent cells with paxilline and it was found that this drug increases the rate of cell proliferation by activating ryanodine receptors and increasing intracellular Ca2+.
